Chad S. Boomershine, MD, PhD
Chad Boomershine is a researcher and clinician residing in Nashville, TN. Dr. Boomershine completed combined MD/PhD training in psychoneuroimmunology at The Ohio State University before his internal medicine and rheumatology training at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Boomershine has served as a faculty member at Vanderbilt University since 2005 in the Division of Rheumatology and Immunology. Dr. Boomershine works in a variety of roles including clinical patient care, research and education. His clinical responsibilities include Directorship of the Vanderbilt Fibromyalgia clinic, Fibromyalgia and Psychoneuroimmunology Specialist at the Vanderbilt Center for Integrative Health and management of the Rheumatology intake clinic at the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Nashville, TN.
Dr. Boomershine’s NIH-funded research is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms that underlie autoimmunity and fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). Dr. Boomershine’s autoimmune research is focused on understanding the ability of transforming growth factor beta to maintain immune tolerance by regulating dendritic cell function. As an investigator at the Vanderbilt Center for Molecular Neuroscience, Dr. Boomershine works to understand the molecular mechanisms that underlie pathogenesis of FMS.
Dr. Boomershine is an international thought leader on the topics of pain and inflammation and has lectured at international meetings and published numerous reviews and articles in leading scientific journals. Dr. Boomershine has a passion for teaching and travels globally to lecture on the topics of FMS, gout, inflammatory arthritis and COX2-selective inhibitors.
