Biosketch

Dale B. Christensen, Ph.D., R.Ph

Dr. Christensen is Emeritus Professor at the Univ. of North Carolina School of Pharmacy and an Affiliate Professor, Univ. of Washington School of Pharmacy. Previously, he was Ferguson Distinguished Professor and Chairman of the Division of Pharmaceutical Outcomes and Policy, and before that, he was a Professor at the University of Washington School of Pharmacy. Prior to entering academia, he practiced in community, hospital, managed care pharmacy settings.

His research interests are in the areas of drug taking compliance, pharmaco-economics and drug policy evaluation. He has worked with the Medicaid agencies, both in the state of Washington and in North Carolina on drug-related issues.  He has served as a member of each state’s Drug Use Review Committee and as a technical advisor on drug-related issues and policies.  He has investigated use of antipsychotics, both in schizophrenia and bipolar affective disorders.

He has a special interest in developing and evaluating pharmacist medication therapy management services. In North Carolina, he supervised the evaluation of the Asheville diabetes disease management project and other polypharmacy medication therapy management projects in ambulatory and nursing home settings.

He continues to be involved in medication therapy management service and drug benefit design projects as a consultant in his semi-retired state, but prefers doing other things like mountain climbing, skiing, and water sports.
